Wedding Update: Bird Seed Bags January 21, 2013

We still have eight months until our wedding day but we’re not sitting idle in the wedding planning department. I posted a sneak peek a couple weeks ago and wanted to share the final product: bird seed bags for the guests to toss after we say ‘I do.’ Here’s the breakdown if you want to make your own.
Supplies:
- Flat Glassine Bags
- Kraft Paper Labels
- Bird Seed (We used a variety pack from our local grocery store)
- Stamp and Ink Pad
- Gold Thread
- Sewing Machine
- Patience
Over the course of a few afternoons, movie nights and with the help of friends we filled about 200 Glassine Bags with 1/4 cup of bird seed, folded the top over and secured with the kraft label paper pre-stamped. It’s much easier and neater to stamp before they’re attached to the bag. From there it was just a matter of quickly running each bag through the sewing machine, making sure the seeds weren’t in the way. I had one mishap that resulted in a broken sewing machine needle launching at my face after it hit a large seed. So beware. I can’t wait to put them to use at our wedding, even though I’ll be the target.
