Vanity Re-Vamp July 14, 2010

After I got home from Madison on Sunday I started working on my latest project, a vanity seat from the Kane County Flea Market. The piece was a steal at only $15 dollars, but as you can see, it needed some love. So that’s what I gave it (along with some sweat and elbow grease). What I was expected to be an easy sanding job on the surface became a two-hour-miss-the-whole-World-Cup ordeal. The paint on the seat was cheap-o and it was peeling off allover. I scraped the surface clean and then sanded by hand. Not the easiest thing to do with all those nooks and crannies. It was worth it, though. I added a fresh coat of white paint and then distressed it a bit.

The fabric is what I’m most excited about. I found it at Calico Corners in Naperville, Illinois on sale (originally $120/yard!). It’s a beautiful embroidered thick canvas material that was perfect for this application. Now I have a figure out what to do with my unusual-shaped leftover scraps. Perhaps I’ll brainstorm while sitting on my new vanity stool?!

Please forgive the photos, it was late and the flash was a little overzealous.

I'd love to hear what you think...
